Keir is 18 months old today!
Happy year and a half to you Keir!
Everyone is doing well and we have been really busy lately (obviously judging by the lack of posts here)
I have a bunch of new photos I will post soon.
Keir is taking part in a wedding this weekend. He even has a tuxedo for the big day.
I will be sure to get lots of pic that day.
I am really busy so that is all I have time for.

-Fun Stuff-

No time to write much, in fact I really shouldn't be posting anything, but this is too cool to not share.
Check out both of the fun toys both working with Google images
This one you have to guess the common image theme

And this one creates themed monatages

Both very fun and worth the look.

-Boxer Boy-

Right now Keir looks like a bit of a boxer! He has the leftovers from his black eye (see the pics in post below) and now he has a little bit of a fat lip, where he pulled a stool over on himself! People must think we are bad parents.
Brenda (the lady whose day care Keir goes too) is a saint. She has remained calm cool and collected throughout Keirs adjustment to day care. Keir used to cry (a LOT) when I dropped him off. Now when I drop him off he runs in and doesn't even want to stop to take his jacket off! I think he has adjusted :-)
Keir has a couple of new words. They are: Apple, please, and NO. That last one is not so good. We were going around the grocery store yesterday and it was "NO" to evrything. "No" to the vegetables, "NO" to the paper towels. Well you get the idea.
The weather is supposed to be crap this weekend so I think we will go for another swim.
Have a good weekend.

-Long Time no post-

Well it has been a long time since i have posted but things have been a little busy around here. Here is a quick list of things that have happened in the past couple of weeks. In no particular order:
1 black eye (Keir ran into a coorner of a table)
First hair cut (Keir bangs were trimmed)
Keir has almost fully adjusted to the daycare. He still cries when I leave him but he seems to be more comfortable during the day
1 conference (i was at a conference in Peterborough and was away from Keir and Jen for 3 days, that was difficult)
1 fat lip (happend last night Keir pulled the kitchen stool over on himself)
How about some pictures (click to enlarge)

Been a while since I have posted some pictures so here we go, in no particular order:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Keir sitting on my lap @ the computer
Image hosted by Photobucket.comKeir's idea of helping with laundry
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Keir likes cookies!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Looking out from his "ride" on a walk
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Helping clear the driveway

This doesn't do it justice, but Keir tries to stomp all the snow on the ground when he sees it. Jen says this is a typical boy thing.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com See's some snow to crush
Image hosted by Photobucket.com Mid crushing
Image hosted by Photobucket.com The aftermath, sweet victory

So there are some pictures. We are all very sick here, my mom, Keir, and Jen had it last week and this week it is my turn.
Big news, Keir has gotten a proper bed, no more crib for him. The reason... he can now climb outof his crib (not good). I don't think 16 month olds are supposed to be able to do that! He must mave some Sipderman blood in him!

-Happy Birthday-

Today is my brother Neal's birthday. Happy Birthday Neal. Neal is currently living in Montreal attending Dawson College, he is enrolled in the Professional Photography Course. Neal has always had a special talent for photography and seems to be truley enjoying himself back in school. If I get a chance I will scan some of the photos he has given us and you will see what I mean.
Other news:
Keir is a little sick this week, a runny nose, but he did go and meet (with Jen) everyone at his home daycare. He will be starting his daycare tomorrow (thursday). Both Jen and I know that he will love it. Keir is an amazingly social little boy. I am not sure where he gets it from, both Jen and I are pretty quite people. This makes me think more and more that you really do come into this world with a clean slate. Is behaviour really all learned or are you just the way you are because you were "born that way"? I don't know but like with all thigns the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.

Now for the begging portiton of the update...
Could someone please click one of the "Google Adds" on the sidebar, you may or may not have noticed them. I just have to see if they work. They won't be anything bad, they might even be helpful.
Thanks

That is all for now.

-Snow-

Well we got a big snow storm yesterday, I think it was something like 20cm of snow in the past two days. And as any good Canadian knows when the snow falls you have to shovel it. Last night I started to shovel the driveway. Keir came outside with me to help me, help is a kind way of putting it. It was funny to watch, Keir would pick up the fresh snow and try to eat it! At first I tried to stop him from eating the snow, but he was very persitant and by the end of the half an hour he had help me by eating a significant amount of snow!
Keir really seems to enjoy being outdoors in the snow. He runs around, rolls around and yes even eats the snow. He must take that from his father!
Other big news, Keir will be going to a daycare provider 2 days a week. This should be lots of fun for Keir, as he really is a social little boy.
He is going for a test run on Monday, so we will see how it goes.

-So you think you are tough-

I had to post this, I read an article in the paper on the weekend about this marathon called the Jungfrau Marathon. It is not enough that your are running a marathon but to add a little extra something the Jungfrau Marathon goes up a Mountain in the Swiss Alps. Total climbing from start to finish... 1829 METRES!

Last years winner did it in just under 3hrs!
This marathon is amazing, the only way I think that I could finsh it would be if my lungs and body was surgically replaced with those from 3 time Ironman Hawaii (and Canadian) winner Peter Reid
Check out the site and just wonder how anybody that wasn't part Mountain Goat could get up a mountain so fast! Visit the Site

-Tuesday is Boy's Day-

Jen works late on tuesday night, so it is just the boys. I managed to feed Keir but I did get him a little dirty.

We tried to stay up until Jen got home but Keir fell asleep on my lap.

I always enjoy tuesday night, when it is just the boys. I know Jen misses him a lot but it is nice that we get to spend some time just the two of us.
I had a nice weekend, it was actually my birthday on Sunday. I turned 30, I am not sure what 30 is supposed to feel like but I don't feel 30. I will write more about turning 30 when I have had a little more time to think about it.

-Slacker-

So I haven't written in a couple of days, I have been real busy. Thanks To the people who have commented and even suggested books (Pascale). I also have some books in mind. After watching Oprah last week (yes I watched Oprah) with Lance Armstrong I really would like to read his books: "Every Second Counts" and "It is not about the Bike". I have always found him very interesting. Athletically I know enough about him already, but I think I would find his books extremely interesting. There is also another book by someone affiliated with Lance that would like to read. It is called "Chris Carmichael's Food for Fitness". Yes that might not be as exciting as a nice mystery novel, but I am very interested in the two main things in that book covers: Food and Fitness. Chris Carmichael is Lance's coach and has been with him throughout the past I would be very interested in hearing his thoughts on Nutrition. Betcha he isn't an Atkins advocate. I think I heard heard somewhere that Tour de France riders eat somethign like 6~7,000 calories a day during the Tour and there are a LOT of CARBS involved!.
Keir is great, he was giving me kisses the other night. It was too cute unfortunatly Jen was at work so no one could get any photos.

-A little explination-

Today I thought that expand on yesterday's post. I probably didn't explain (very well) my idea to read more an write more often. The whole idea is an exercise for me. I know I am not dumb but just as in almost anything; if you don't practice and constantly use the particular skill it will deteriorate.
It was pointed out to me that there is a couple of spelling errors in yesterdays post. I knew there would be, but I didn't use any spell check for a reason. Yesterday's post is meant as a bench mark. I want to be able to look back at yesterday's post to see if my writing skills have improved. So I can promise you that you will see more spelling mistakes, hopefully there will be less and less as this exercise continues. However I am hoping that you will also see an improvement in the content of the posts.
Anyways just trying to clear things up for everybody (including me).

-It has been a while-

Well so much for my promise to keep this thing up to date more often! It has been a couple of days since I last posted.
Keir is saying more and more words, he imitates words that you say to him. The other day he said "Hi". Also his back teeth appear to be coming in and with that we have had a couple of interupted sleep nights.
I am going to go of on a different direction with a bit of an announcement.
I have come to the conclusion that I need to read more. Those of you that know me probably know that I don't read. In the last ten years I can count on 1 hand the number of books I have read. It is weird because both my mom and dad both read a lot and Jen reads a whole lot also. I have have also come to the conclusion that I am not a good writer. My spelling is horible, my grammar is just as bad, and I have a hard time articulating my thoughts both oral and written (more so written). My lack of reading and horrible writing skils are obviously linked. In an effort to improve this I have started to try and read 0.5hrs a night and I am going to be writting a whole lot more in this web site.
So there will still be the Keir updates but you also might see a little more ramblings about thoughts I have (or don't have). So bare with me, feel free to comment on what I am saying in my writings or just point at your screen an laugh. I may run out of things to write about or you may see more "..the weather today" posts, but I think the process will be an important one for me in learning a little more about myself.

-Weekend Fun-
Had lots of fun this weekend. Got to go out for a skate on the Rideau Canal. We went out on Sunday it was a beautiful day, the canal was very busy as it was the first nice weekend we have had in a while. The Canal was in great condition.
Here are some pics from the skate on the canal:

<- This is what Keir did for the whole skate (sleep!).

After the skate we went to a nearby pub for lunch. At lunch Keir learned a new trick. Drinking his dad's water from a straw, he was very pleased with himself. Keir was great in the pub, he just sat and watched as many people as he could. He must get that from me!
We also had a little drawing time in the afternoon. Here are some pics form Keir learning how to use crayons:

-Pictures, we want pictures!-
I thought i would post a couple of pictures seeing as I haven't done that in some time.
Keir's hair is growing very well, he is his little mullet. Some people might ask what is a mullet? This is a MULLET
I mentioned Keir going outside to play in the snow, here he is all dressed up looking like the Stay Puff Marsh-Mallow Man. He still manages to be surprisingly nimble with all those clothes on.
I just like this last picture, it is Keir in the tub with his ducky on deck. That thing in his mouth is his toothbrush. He has almost mastered brushing his teeth, almost....

-Snowboy-
Well in an effort to keep up with my promise from the previous post, I am posting again today.
Last was fun; Jen and I along with Keir in his trailer, went for a walk last night. After the walk we let Keir play outside in front of the house. Keir real does like playing outside and is fascinated with the snow. We even had him sliding down the snow banks in our drive-way. I will have to get some photos, maybe tonight.

In other scientific news, it is very cold at 5:30am in January in Canada. I went for a run this morning and it was cold, I didn't even bother looking at the temperature. Once you got moving it wasn't so bad.
Got to go.

-What was I doing?-
Ever feel like your forgeting something? Oh yeah the blog site!!! So I haven't updated in a long time. It has been a very hectic last month, work, not-work, and everything else has been out of control.
Keir is doing great since the last update. Running around as happy as ever. He tries to verbalize everything, you can tell he really wants to talk. No words yet just lots of ooo's and ahhhh's and other sounds.
Jen was sick last week and it really knocked her down (she even took a day of work, that means she must have been really sick), Keir also got a little bit of Jen's bug but he was only affected for a couple of days and seems to be over it and back to his normal self.
As for me, I am so busy with work right now that I always feel like I am forgeting something. I got back into the pool and am swimming once a week. Still doing lots of x-country skiing.
I promise to be better at updating this site, hey that almost sounded like a New Year's resolution. Only a month late, better than never I guess.

-Holiday!-
Well X-mas has come and gone for another year. This year was really special because it was Keir's first X-mas, second actually but last year he was just a month old. As you can expect Keir was spoiled pretty good. He really enjoyed all his gifts.
It started off bright and early in the morning at our house were he saw his main gift from his parents. It was a chalk board/easle for him to draw on.
He also got a phone , here he is opening it and then the phone in use. A big gift was the kid sized table and chairs form Big Granny H Those photos were from my parents place were we spent X-mas morning. We also had breakfast there
After that we came back to our house and Jen's mom and dad came over in the afternoon. So it was more gifts for Keir:
Among some of the gifts he got was a music set. After all the gifts were opened we had everyone over for X-mas dinner. It was a really nice meal, and as usual I ate far to much.
On boxing day we went in Jen's parents place for a brunch with Jen's side of the family. Here is my favorite picture from that day. It is of Keir being chased by his older cousins William and Scarlett. The kids had a LOT of fun with each other.
Here are some random pics from the holidays:
Keir in some of his new pyjama's
More PJs but notice his hair He had just wolk up and had some serious bed head.
Keir walked to the end of the driveway yeasterday. Here he is at the top

-Hello, anybody there?-
OK so I am a little busy right now and haven't had a chance to post anything in over a month. We did have a party for Keir's birthday, there was cake and gifts and Keir really liked seeing everybody. I am amazed how social Keir is, he really does enjoy being around other people. I was a little worried that the party situation might be a little overwhelming for him. But he enjoy every minute of it. He even tried some of his cake!
I have lots of new pictures but I haven't uploaded them yet.
I will have some down time over the X-mas holidays. I am taking almost 2 weeks off. It will be nice to spend that much time with Keir and Jen.
We have been doing lots of X-country skiing, as we have gotten lots of snow here over the last couple of weeks.
I promise I will get lots more photos up in the coming weeks.

-Birthday part 2-
Last night my parents came over for a little party for Keir's Birthday. It was just the 5 of us. On sunday we are having a bigger party for Keir's 1st birthday. We didn't want to make it a big thing but when it came time to put the list of attendee's together it just kept growing, we really wanted to share the special event with our friends and family. I think it is up to 25 people, now that may not be a lot for some people but for Jen and I that is. I always think that I don't know that many people but when you are forced to start inviting people to an event, you quickly realize that you really do know more people than you think. I am starting to go off on a tangent here so back to Keir's cake last night. I took some photos from last night.

Mom help Keir blwo out his candle
Jen also got Keir a Balloon in the shape of an Elephant. Keir really likes elephant because of the new DVD he got.It is Baby Einstein, Baby Noah
He LOVES the baby Noah(an elephant puppet)
Keir had some cake and ice cream, which he really didn't like, it may have been to sweet for him.
I am not sure if Keir realized that all the fuss was for him, but it was a nice evening.

-Rememberance Day-
Today is Rememberance Day in Canada, I have the day of but Jen doesn't, so it is just me watching Keir! Keir has been very good and well behaved for his dad. I did manage to misplace my house key after stepping out this morning, some parent I am! We managed to get back into the house with a quick trip to my parents house for their spare key.
Keir has been walking all morning long, around and around. It is just amazing to watch him go.
Jen has been back at work for almost two weeks, it was very hard at first(it still is really) but things are going smoother. My mom is loving the time she gets to spend with Keir on a daily basis. Jen isn't working full time hours either so that makes things a little eaiser for everyone involved.
Keir has just woken up from his nap so I have to get going.
Just a quick thought about Rememberance Day itself, I can't help but be very thankful for the all the men and women of the armed forces who made any sort of sacrafice for the wonderful country we live in.

-Busy, Busy, Busy-
Things have been realy crazy for me the past two weeks. Work is extremley busy, getting ready for Thanksgiving Weekend, and prepareing for the marathon, all made things a little hectic. Two of those issues have now passed, but I am still very busy at work.
We had a really nice Thanksgiving weekend, Jen's parents came up and stay with us for Sunday and Monday. Jen and I decided that we would like to host the Thanksgiving dinner at our place on Sunday. That meant that my mom and dad and Neal(home from Montreal) along with Jen's mom and dad, Keir, Jen and I were all going to be at our place on Sunday afternoon/night.
Everything went really well, the food was very good (everyone brought something for the meal) and with the exception of the chicken (my responsability) taking double the time that it was supposed to cook everything went off without a hitch. Did I mention I couldn't walk while I was preparing the meal? That's because I ran in a marathon in the morning!

The marathon went well, and I was pleased with my time 3:27:54 (my goal was to go under 3hrs 30mins). I learned a LOT from the whole expireince.
The course was very hilly which I wasn't expecting(Lesson Learned #1: examine the terrain you will be running on BEFORE you get to the race course) but throughout the first lap, 21.1km, I felt really good. I had a goal pace time and was actually running a little to fast and had to slow myself down a couple of times, but didn't do that good of a job beacuse I did the first lap 5 mins faster than I had planned.(Lesson Learned #2: stick to your plan!) I had planned to try and run the 2nd lap a little faster than the first, but it didn't work out that way. The two main factors in preventing me from accomplishing that was the temperature/wind (it was really cold that day with a strong wind) and the second half of the hills took a lot out of me. By the 33km mark I couldn't keep my leg turnover at a quick enough pace. The most important lesson I learned was how much of a mental game a marathon is. I really struggled mentally from the 35-40km portion of the race. With the adrenaline of the finish line in sight I was able to finish strong.
Here is the proof that I did finish the Marathon:
Official Results
Photograhic Proof
I guess I pretty well, I finished 21st out of 99 people and 2nd in my age group. I didn't stick around afterwards because I had to get home to start the chicken for supper later on that day.
I really did learn a lot, and can't wait to do another!
I will let Jen update you on Keir, but he is still as amazing as ever!

-That's small step for Keir, and two giant stunned parents-
OK, so that was a bad play on Neil Armstrongs famous quote, but it was an appropriate description for Jen and I's reaction last night to Keir's first two STEPS!!!!!!
Yes Keir walked on his own for the very first itme last night. He are the details: he was standing with the help of a samll table in his room. He turned and saw a soccer ball a couple of feet away and instead of sitting down and crawling over like he normally would do, he just turned towards the ball and took two steps over to it and sat down next to it. Jen looked at me, and I looked at her and said "Did he just do what I think he did?". After that we both clapped and cheered for Keir, he too seemed very proud of his accomplishment!
Of course we tried to recreate the feat a couple of times after that but with no success, Keir seemed to thing that once was enough for the night, maybe tomorrow night!
This weekend is Thanksgiving Weekend in Canada, so it is a long weekend. We are having my parents, Jen's parents and my brother over for a big dinner on Sunday. It should be lots of fun.
Speaking of fun, i am running in a Marathon on Sunday Morning. I am very excited as it will be my first. More details to follow next week.
That's all for now

-Keir 2 Dada 0-
This won't be a long post but I felt i should share so here goes. Last night Clobered me in the nose with his little head, it was timed perfectly his head was coming up mine was going down. His forehead hit me right on the underneath of my nose. It almost brought a tear to my eyes, but Keir didn't even flinch! He looked up at me smiling and wondering why I was holding my nose. There was no blood but it still hurt, Keir 1 Dada 0
After the head-but incident it was time for Keir's bath, I got him all stripped down and brought him into the bathroom while Jen ran the bath for Keir. As we were waiting for the bath to fill up, I was holding Keir at my side, sudenlly my side felt very wet and warm. Keir was peeing on me! Keir 2 Dada 0.
I guess these happenings are the "secret joys" of being a parent!
Told you it would be short.

Well as Jen said here are some new photos of Keir. Keir has started eat more solids. These photos are from this morning of Keir eating toast:

As Jen mentioned in her last post, I was at the dentist yesterday. I needed some small filling done to a couple of teeth. I DON'T LIKE THE DENTIST DRILL, THAT NOISE IS THE WORST NOISE IN THE WORLD. For curiosity sake, I wore my Heart Rate Monitor. My Heart Rate peaked right around 100BPM(beats per Minute). Normally it would be right around 50BPM. I can handle the needles and everything else involved in the dentists office, but when they start drilling I really start to stress, evident by my heart rate.
Anyway I have to go back for one last filling because they ran out of time and didn't want to freeze both sides of my mouth.
Thats all for now

-Pots and Pans-
Again I must apologize for not being more consistant in updating the page, I was away at a conference last week so things were very compressed last week and I didn't have much spare time.
As I just mentioned, I was away last week for 3 days(2 nights) and it was the first time I was away from Keir. As you could expect it was very hard (although the 8hrs of uninterrupted sleep was nice!). Keir was very good for his mommy while I was away so that made it a little easier, but it was still very hard to not be able to see him for such an extended period of time.
Keir's latest things is that he loves to play with the pots and pans in the kitchen. He pulls open the drawer and empties it out and rattles them around, he can sit there for minutes at a time with a huge smile on his face. Jen read somewhere that only smart/creative kids play with the pots and pans, I am not sure how accurate that is but he sure does enjoys those pots and pans.

That is all for now

-Busy, Busy, Busy-
Well once again I have been a little slow on updating anything here but I have an excuse, really, I do... OK not a good excuse but an excuse none the less. The excuse is: I was busy, I told you it wasn't a good excuse.
We were on vacation from August 7th to the 15th. We went up to the a cottage, that friends of ours let us use. The cottage and lake are beautiful but the weather was not, so we came home early. Keir did enjoy the water and got to go on lots of walks.
I have lots(and lots) of pictures of the vacation that I haven't gone through yet.
Keir has changed a lot since I last updated things here.
He no crawls with no problem and actually gets around really fast.
He won't stop "Talking", he babbles on to himself or anybody in his general direction.
He can climb stairs now! He goes up the stairs no problem but he hasn't figured out the down part just yet. Here is proof:
Stairs 1
Stairs 2
He has two more teeth, bringing his total to 6! The 2 teeth beside the big front teeth have started to come in.
He is sleeping in his own crib, and last night for the first time EVER he slept right through the whole night! I will tell you that is a great day(well night really) for parents. So cross your fingers that this trend continues.
That is all for now, I will get some pictures up soon.
Take care
