Some Pics

Friday night we went to "Movies on the Beach" a promotion put on by a local radio station. They inflate a giant screen and show a movie at a local beach, and best of all it is FREE!!!
Here is the giant screen before the movie started

It was very popular, there was at least 500 people there

Keir had a blast playing in the sand and rolling down the hill, here he is caught in the act

Keir waiting for the movie

We brought some popcorn for Keir

Even Isla enjoyed the showed

Sunset and flying Isla

Eventually Isla fell asleep, I had to take her for a little walk to get away from the noise of the movie, but once she was asleep we just put her in the chariot(baby carrier)

Movie Night

Keir and I went to see the new Star Wars Movie last night!!! The Movie is called The Clone Wars and it takes place between Episode II and III. Yes I am an admitted “Star Wars Geek” and proud off it :-)
The Movie is a spin off of the Cartoon Series of the same name. It was created by the Cartoon Network, originally they had a bunch of short chapters that aired on TV and are now available as DVD.
If you are a “Star Wars Geek” you will like this movie but I suspect there will be some people that don’t like it (a couple of the characters are “interesting choices”)
Enough of the review, Keir really enjoyed himself and he didn’t even leave the theatre to go to the bathroom for the duration of the movie. Those of you with small children will know that this is no feat!

Here is another video of Isla

Paging the Hardies.... are you there Mr Hardie?

Ok, I keep saying I will post more... but this time I mean it ;-)
Things have been really busy for us with the move, summer, and two kids.
I feel like we are finally settling into the new home. we really like the neighbourhood and the yard is amazing, the house needs a little work to bring it around to our tastes but that is what the weekend and Home Depot are for! We have already done some mini projects (ripped up the old flooring in Keir's room) changed some light fixtures, so things are a changing at the house.
We haven't had much of a chance to get to the cottage this summer, but we did manage to get up there last weekend. Here are a couple of pics from the week we spent up there.

-Still Alive-

Blogging hasn't really been top of my list of things to do these days but time for an update.
I operate on the very simple principle/saying: "That which doesn't kill you will only make you stronger"... well lets just say that we are going to be much STRONGER after the past couple of weeks.
We have moved from our first family home to our new home. We bought the home back in November of last year and had a long closing.
The move process was chaotic (there seemed to be a problem or two everyday for a whole week), made even more chaotic with two small kids. Keir has responded extremely well to the move, and really hasn't missed a beat. Isla on the other hand... Isla got sick a couple of days after the move and was reduced to a poor wimpering, snautering, sickly little girl. The result was not a whole lot of sleep for mom and dad and Isla. She is feeling better now, but her sleep patterns seem to all out of whack, hopefully the will return to normal soon.
Hopefully that didn't sound to negative (I hate that) so to balance things off here are some positives:
Manotick (where we moved too) is absolutely beautiful
Our street is amazing, everyone is really friendly
My commute to work is a 10min run, 4min bike (if I take the short way to work) and I haven't used to car to get to work yet!
Our backyard is the best part, Keir (and Isla) love it.

I will post some pics soon, when I have some more time

That all for now
take care

Race Weekend

Well it has been some time since I have posted, been very busy with work, getting ready for the move, kids, training, world peace, etc....
On the weekend of May 24-25th was the Ottawa Race Weekend. Jen did the 10km on Saturday and I did the marathon on Sunday.
Saturday afternoon we headed down to watch Jenny run her race. Here is a pic of the whole family before the race....

Here is Jen and 10,000 of her closest running friends (sorry there was about 7500 registered for the 10km alone!)

After we left Jen I walked past a couple of the Kenyan's who were getting changed/ready for the start. Look at the size of their legs, I think my arms are bigger than there legs(and I don't have big arms!)

Keir and Isla were watching mommy run, we had positioned ourselves on Elgin street to watch the runners go by at about 1km(maybe not even that). Here is what it looked like as the runners came by, it was almost impossible to pick anybody out of the masses.

We did manage to see Jenny go by, she actually almost ran into us, as she was trying to pass people! Here is what Keir was doing, asking runners to "Stop!" Thankfully no body did :-)

After we saw Jenny go by at the 1km mark, we made our way to the finish to watch for Jenny, we got a call from my Dad who was at the 7km mark that Jenny was on her way.
Here she is nearing the finish, think she looks happy to be finishing

We met up with Jen after then finish, which was a feat in itself with all the people out there
Jenny did great in her first race, she finished in 62:30, she was a little frustrated because she lined up to far back in at the start, so she was stuck with slower runners that she had to work hard to pass a LOT of people.

I ran the marathon on Sunday. Things did not go as planned. The thursday and Friday before the race my stomach was funny, I thought it was just nerves but it turns out it was fighting something off. Sunday morning while making breakfast, I had a wicked set of cold sweats and spins, not the way to start the day! I managed to eat breakfast and I thought everything was OK.
My goal was to go under 3hrs, the plan was to stick like glue too the 3hr pace runner/bunny. The gun went off and I had forgotten completely about my stomach problems. he first 10km felt great (we went through in 41:52, right on pace for 3hrs) by 15km I realized that none of the calories I had consumed had been absorbed. but I wanted to go under 3hrs so I pressed on.
We went through 21.1km(half way) at 1:27:28 and I was still feeling pretty good, but the calories we still not being absorbed. I passed my parents at 25km, then at 26-7km mark the no calories started to take its toll, my energy levels were dropping and I was having troubles keeping pace with the 3hr group.
By 30km (2:06:33) I had lost the group, and I had to stop running as my stomach was revolting against me.
I ended up walking the last 12km, which was a very humbling experiences, every time I tried to run my stomach convinced me to stop! It took 2:04 to walk the final 12km.
Not the race I wanted but at least I finished. Somethings are beyond your control.
Here is a pic of me when I was feeling good
I will keep posting more often, the move to the new house is coming up soon(the end of June!)
That is all for now
Take care.

Mom and Isla

Here are some wonderful new pics of Isla and Jenny
These photos were taken by my mom, maybe that is where Neal gets his photography skills from ;-)
It is appropriate that these photos are posted this weekend, after all it is Mother's Day on Sunday.
Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there.

I will have more pics soon once I get the of the camera.
Isla is doing great, she is sleeping through the night (has been for the last 3 weeks!!!!!). Mom and Dad are catching up on the sleep they have been missing.
She can also say "dada" which makes me very happy :-) She seems much more verbal than Keir was at the same age.
She has developed a little "scooch" as a way of getting around. It is a half drag, half crawling move than she has perfected (and get up to speed very quick).
Keir is funny as ever, he is taking swimming lesson currently, and is enrolled for soccer this summer when we move out to Manotick.
Jenny is signed up for the 10km on race weekend at the National Capital Marathon and is running like crazy.
That is all for now
Take care

After Isla's bath Keir and I went for a swim at the hotel pool. They have a a slide at the pool. It was called the "Corkscrew" :-)
You had to pass a swimming test to go down the slide, which Keir did. then it was up the Four stories to the top of the slide.
I had to go first so I could wait for Keir a the bottom. Now when they called it the "Corkscrew" they were spot on. You go down on the pitch black and spiraling down.
Keir made it down but he wasn't too impressed with the dark and corkscrewing, so we didn't do it again.
